World ReligionsWatercolor and Ink on Paper mounted to fabric, with metal rod 8ft x 3ft x 2ft 2003 Artist Private Collection |
The concept of World Religions speaks to my observation that all major forms of worship appear to have many more similarities than differences. Thus each panel represents various religious disciplines with the same ethereal watercolor backgrounds overlaid with spiraling and ever changing rules for living within a life of "religious" boundaries. As one kneels in front of this universal alter to pray, it begs the question, "Which image is MY religion?" From the gilded domes of majestic cathedrals to the vast open air arena of a snow capped summit, God, in so many forms and languages, can sometimes be a tightly wound, and all encompassing, experience or can expand the heart more and more with each breath. World Religions reminds me to simultaneously stay open to the wisdom of many beliefs, i.e. whichever image, whichever voice is able to be heard at each moment in time.
