In Flight was a very exciting piece to make as it quickly became an exercise in both composition and math. As the butterflies ascend, they become incrementally larger until they reach the top, having grown bigger than life. Thus was my experience while completing my bachelors degree the same year as this piece was created. I was about to graduate, having reached the top of my academic ascent, strong with knowledge, skills and hope but not sure of what lied ahead. A leap of faith began while in flight.

Six years later, a flight of a different nature has begun again with this piece. Surrounded by a newly planted spiral of redwoods, "home" has taken on a new and deeper meaning as In Flight was installed at the grove's center point.
